The Wesleyan Poetry Series is one of the most prestigious poetry prizes in the world. Each year, the series publishes a collection of poems by a single poet. This year's finalists include Rae Armantrout, whose work explores the nature of language and perception.

Armantrout's poems are often playful and experimental, and they challenge readers to think about the way we see and understand the world. In her poem "The World," she writes:

The world is a book
that we read
over and over again.
But the words are always
changing,
and the meaning
is never the same.

Armantrout's poem suggests that the world is a complex and ever-changing place. There is no one definitive way to understand it. Instead, we must constantly reinterpret our experiences and try to make sense of the world around us.

Armantrout's work is also known for its use of humor. In her poem "The Problem with Language," she writes:

The problem with language
is that it's always
trying to say something.
But sometimes
there's nothing to say.
And that's okay.

Armantrout's poem suggests that language can be a limiting force. It can prevent us from expressing our true feelings and experiences. However, Armantrout also argues that it is okay to be silent sometimes. There is no need to always try to find the right words.

Rae Armantrout is a gifted poet who challenges readers to think about the nature of language and perception. Her work is playful, experimental, and often humorous. She is a deserving finalist for the Wesleyan Poetry Series, and I encourage you to read her work.
